1st Year Birthday Bash ~ Homemade

Happy Birthday to Shell!

Yippee for 1st birthday parties! Shell's party gave me the license to dig into kids play. I emailed my local mom's group and asked for empty tp rolls, visited our local craft store, and then searched the internet for crafting videos. Here's what my little Minnie Mouse presented to her party guests.

The expense of a birthday party in 2011 is outrageous! We booked our church's hall for $100.00. We rented a bounce house *best bounce house you've ever seen - clean, cute, and brand new* for $117.00, and then the cost of plastic table covers at $2.99 a piece times 25 = way too much! Let's not discuss the plasticware and cost of yummies in the tummy.

That said, I spent an entire week dreaming up *with eyes wide open until 4 am* homemade ideas for Shell's party. I destroyed my budget on the hall's rental, so with everything else involved I needed to get busy with the double sided tape!

I'm proud to announce we were able to keep almost everything from the party. Only a few table coverings hit the dust, so that means Sea gets a black and pink themed 6th birthday party this year. My darling hubby needs to lock me up and my purse until her birth month. *lol*

Now that my dreamy state of birthday planning has come and gone, I'm back to late nights at the computer trying to figure out the world of lapbooking versus notebooking. Just when I felt confident in this homeschooling venture, I'm slapped with the reality of possibly attending the yearly homeschool conference. YIKES! Someone help me escape back to the party planning days.

  1. very cute! And I know all about those creeping costs! At least you have 2 girls and you can recycle a lot of the party things. :)(That's what I tell Leo)

  2. Yes. The cost of the table covers alone made me wanna run to Home Goods for cloth covers.

However, I would feel the need to commit to a party there every year. The hall is a huge building and very difficult to decorate on a small budget. I do not prefer plastic table covers. Though they were a must on our budget. :O) And yes...I tried my best to sell the "two daughters" line to Michael.

I do not even dare to put all my costs together to see how much I spent as a whole. *lol* And the worst part, we forgot to replenish the food table and brought home over half of the yummies...at least the grocery budget is slimmer this week! :O)
